St. John’s, NL – Rutter Inc. today announced major updates for the sigma S6 Ice Navigator™ radar system, the world’s leading ice navigation and management system. Advanced Ice Analysis brings enhanced ice detection and tracking capabilities to the sigma S6 Ice Navigator™, with intelligent tools automatically identifying features within ice fields to enhance safety and efficiency at sea.
Advanced Ice Analysis provides increased awareness making it possible to identify ice ridges within ice floes and fields, and also to detect and identify icebergs which are embedded in pack ice. The system also detects and outlines open water leads in ice-infested waters. This enhanced awareness allows navigators to avoid hazards when transiting ice zones, plotting the safest and most efficient routes.
Coupled with these new features unique to the sigma S6 Ice Navigator™ are two new capabilities available for all Rutter systems: Coastline Mapping and sigma S6 Connect. The automatic Coastline Mapping feature incorporates a world coastline map, eliminating false positive targets when operating near land. sigma S6 Connect makes all of your sigma S6 data available through a web interface using open standards allowing easy integration into external systems such as Google Earth Pro, GIS, and ice management systems using industry standard formats. Also, further enhancements to Rutter’s industry leading high resolution imaging have strengthened its ice and small target detection, increasing tracking accuracy for small maneuvering targets, and hard-to-see targets such as bergy bits and growlers amongst sea clutter.
“The maritime industry of today requires solutions that enhance operational awareness and enable the execution of projects safely and efficiently while reducing expenses,” stated Rutter CEO, Fraser Edison. “Rutter has continually developed technology allowing operators to get more information out of their marine radars than is available anywhere else on the market.”
Installations of the sigma S6 Ice Navigator are used around the globe on ice breaker fleets, tankers, research vessels, bulk carriers and coast guard vessels from countries operating in Arctic, Antarctic and subarctic regions. sigma S6 Ice Navigator™ systems are also in use by oil and gas companies as part of their ice management solutions to increase the safety and operational time of offshore platforms, drill ships and support vessels.
