WaMoS® II

Ocean State Monitoring System

sigma S6 WaMoS® II (wave radar) is a radar-based, wave and surface current monitoring system that delivers real-time measurements while a vessel is underway, providing germane data to the local operational area.  High definition images of wave fields combined with numerical data and intuitive graphical reporting keep the operator well-informed in assessing environmental risk and identifying safe operational windows.

Wave and Surface Current Monitoring

In a changing environment, sound decisions at sea require timely, accurate data. sigma S6 WaMoS® II is a pervasive, low maintenance sensor easily deployed to provide a real-time understanding of your marine environment. For ports, offshore installations, vessels, and institutional researchers, WaMoS® II is the world’s best-in-class wave and current monitoring radar. sigma S6 WaMoS® II mitigates the risks involved with offshore operations, providing superior real-time data to evaluate sea states and currents to determine maximum operating conditions have been exceeded.

WaMoS®II :: Overview

BENEFITS

Improved Decision-Making

Having the ability to measure wave and surface currents in real-time improves decision-making and planning for offshore coastal marine and terrestrial assets.

Mitigate Risk

Reduce the risk associated with operating offshore. With WaMoS® II operators can monitor current sea states, to make better informed decisions to improve safety.

Optimized Route-Planning

Navigate with confidence receiving prevailing current and wave information in your area to allow modifications in course if required for optimal routing.  Sea state alarms can be set to trigger for: significant wave height exceeding limits, peak wave lengths, or as the encounter angle and ship’s course moves outside a specific range.

Cost-Effectiveness

Avoid high operational costs associated with in-water sensors for research projects. With negligible maintenance costs, projects that rely on public/private funding can better manage expenditures.

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Both as an alternative to or as a backup for buoys, WaMoS®II minimizes maintenance costs often associated with in-water assets.
  • As a ‘bolt-on’ to most industry-standard marine radar, WaMoS® II gives the user visibility into real-time wave and surface current information to aid in decision-making.
  • WaMoS® II measures and displays all the essential wave field parameters including:
    • Significant wave height (Hs)
    • Peak wave period (Tp)
    • Peak wave length (λp)
    • Peak wave direction (θp)
    • Surface current speed (U)
    • Surface current direction (θU)

FEATURES

Real-Time Wave and Current Measurements

sigma S6 WaMoS II delivers real-time wave and surface current measurements, like those from a wave buoy, except using a marine x-band radar.  Providing measurement for up to 5 (five) analysis areas up to 4kms from the radar site.

Remote Viewing and Control

sigma S6 WaMoS II allows ability to view and control the system remotely from multiple locations with options to operate under low bandwidth conditions when necessary.

Data Recording

sigma S6 WaMoS II provides recording options to capture on-screen activity as images, a video recording, or a low-level capture of the radar data that can be used at a later date as if live for training or in-depth analysis.

sigma S6 Connect

A web-enabled interface which makes it possible to integrate all of your sigma S6 data into your external systems using open standards.

SeaFusion

SeaFusion combines up to four sigma S6 systems at a single site, where coverage by a single radar may be obstructed to provide 360° coverage. SeaFusion merges data from individual WaMoS II systems into a single operational display. This eliminates the need for multiple displays to operate the radar processors.

Round the Clock Coverage
The overall improvements in situational awareness provided by the sigma S6 system occur across a wide range of sea states, weather, and daylight conditions, providing tactical information essential for real time route planning and decision making.
